Waterless urinal for allotment sheds and garden plots

Wall-mounted waterless urinal for garden sheds — suitable for Russian dachas, German Schrebergarten / Kleingarten, Dutch Volkstuin, British allotments, French jardin familial, and Polish Rodzinny Ogród Działkowy (ROD). Mounts to the shed wall with two screws, urine drains separately into a canister or connects to a separating composting toilet. No plumbing, no sewage connection.
Why Buckets, Chemical Toilets, and One Trenntoilette Don't Work
Garden plots lack sewage systems, and connecting to them is usually prohibited by association rules and local laws (in Germany — § 3 BKleingG, in the UK — Allotments Act, in Poland — ROD statute, in the Netherlands — Volkstuinvereniging rules). A bucket in the corner of the shed starts to smell within hours. Chemical toilets are heavy, require scented liquid, regular emptying, and are unpleasant to maintain. Separating composting toilets (Trelino, BOXIO, Kildwick, Separett, Biolan) solve most of the problem, but with two users, the liquid waste canister fills in 2–3 days — too frequent emptying is needed.
Pi-Pi addresses one specific part of this issue: separate urine collection by men standing, against the wall, without water. Your composting toilet's canister fills 2–3 times slower, and the main toilet is used only for solids.
Complies with Garden Association Rules
Waterless separating toilets (Trockentrenntoiletten, composting toilets) are allowed in Schrebergartenverein, on British allotments, in Dutch Volkstuinen, and Polish ROD — this is an established practice. Pi-Pi operates without plumbing and without sewage connection — urine flows by gravity into a canister or the holding tank of an existing composting toilet. Check your association's statute: restrictions usually apply to permanent sewage systems, not dry systems.
Technical Facts
- Material LLDPE: does not crack at −50 °C; operating range −30…+60 °C, unheated shed in winter is not a problem
- Weight 1.4–1.5 kg: mounts with two screws on any wall, including thin wooden partitions
- Installation 15–30 minutes: no plumber, no special tools required
- Stepped nozzle Ø24/32/40 mm: fits standard garden hoses and Trelino, BOXIO, Kildwick, Separett, Biolan outlets without adapters
- Standard: closed top, for installation without ventilation — optimal if the shed has no exhaust pipe
- Standard Plus: top opening Ø70 mm for connection to existing composting toilet ventilation or its own exhaust pipe
- Manufactured in Estonia (EU), lifespan 7–10 years
What to Do with Collected Urine
- Fertilizer for the Garden: dilute 1:10 with water — feed for tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis, pumpkins in the greenhouse or garden bed
- In Compost: 6 parts urine to 1 part peat accelerates decomposition and retains nitrogen in the pile
- For Disposal: canister emptied into the communal receiver of the association or disposed of according to plot rules
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Urinal Freeze in Winter in an Unheated Shed?
The urinal itself will not: LLDPE remains flexible down to −50 °C. In winter, the hose is removed from the nozzle, and the canister is emptied; the empty Pi-Pi winters peacefully on the wall.
Does it Fit Trelino, BOXIO, Kildwick, Separett, Biolan Composting Toilets?
Yes. Standard Plus has a top inlet Ø70 mm for connection to the composting toilet's standard ventilation, bottom drainage Ø24/32/40 mm goes into the liquid waste canister. Installation without adapters.
Can Collected Urine be Used as Fertilizer?
Yes. Dilution 1:10 with water is a common gardening practice for tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash crops in the greenhouse or garden bed.
Does the Waterless Urinal Smell in the Shed?
No. Ammonia odor occurs when urine contacts feces; this does not happen in a separating urinal. The canister is rinsed with water every 1–2 weeks.
Is This Allowed in Garden Associations?
Dry waterless systems are an approved practice in Schrebergartenverein (DE), on allotments (UK), in Volkstuinen (NL), on ROD (PL), and in most Russian garden associations. Pi-Pi does not require sewage connection, thus falls under permissible dry systems. Check your association's internal rules with the chairman.
How Many Liters Does the Canister Hold Before Emptying?
Depends on the chosen canister (typically 10–20 l). One male user — emptying every 1–2 weeks; a couple — every 5–7 days.
Pi-Pi complements your separating toilet — it doesn't replace it
If you already have a Trelino, BOXIO, Kildwick, Separett or Biolan on the plot, Pi-Pi doesn't compete with it. It's a separate wall urinal: men use it standing, urine drains straight into a jerrycan or into the existing ventilation. The liquid container of your separating toilet fills 2–3 times slower, the main toilet handles only solids, and ammonia odour doesn't develop. Nothing in the existing setup needs changing — the stepped outlet Ø24/32/40 mm connects to the pipe already there.
- Trelino Origin / Evo: Pi-Pi bottom outlet feeds the liquid jerrycan or a separate tank, top Ø70 mm (Standard Plus) connects to the existing Trelino vent pipe
- BOXIO Toilet: with two users the BOXIO jerrycan overflows in 2 days; Pi-Pi adds a second circuit and solves that problem
- Kildwick EasyLoo / MiniLoo: drain into the collection container, vent through Ø70 mm without an adapter
- Separett Villa / Tiny: bottom outlet into the liquid container, top into the existing toilet vent
- Biolan Eko: bottom outlet into the compost chamber or a separate tank, top into the vent stack
Seamless replacement of other urinals: the stepped outlet Ø24/32/40 mm connects without modification to the existing pipe, and the Ø70 mm top inlet on the Standard Plus model connects without modification to the existing ventilation duct.
