What temperature range does the Pi-Pi urinal withstand?
Pi-Pi urinals and sinks are designed for a range from −40 °C to +60 °C. This is the technical operating range of the material (LLDPE): in winter, in an unheated cabin, it retains impact resistance, and in summer, it withstands heat up to +60 °C.
What does −40 °C mean
The product does not crack in frost down to −40 °C: the plastic remains flexible and impact-resistant, so an unheated cabin, garage, or summer house in winter is not a problem. This applies to both waterless urinals and plastic sinks. How to prepare the product for winter is covered in the responses about winter operation of the urinal and about the sink in a cold room.
What does +60 °C mean
+60 °C is the maximum operating temperature. Up to this temperature, the material is designed for summer heat, including in a closed cabin, where on a hot day the air heats up more than outside.
Why is the range two-sided
Plastic can fail on both sides. In severe frost, a rigid material becomes brittle and cracks from impact. In heat, a weak material softens and loses shape. For a urinal and sink in a cabin, both edges are important: in winter, the structure freezes, and in summer, it heats up under the roof. Therefore, Pi-Pi specifies the entire working range of the material, not just the frost. Why LLDPE was chosen is explained in the response about the difference from HDPE.
What this means by season
- Winter. An unheated cabin, garage, or utility block freezes, but the product remains flexible and impact-resistant.
- Summer. Summer heat up to +60 °C, including in a closed room, is acceptable for the material.
- Mid-season. Temperature fluctuations within the range are not a problem for the product.
If you have doubts
If you have unusual conditions, for example, the product is near a heat source, you can describe the conditions and get an answer on the suitable model.
Check it against your own place
A summerhouse, allotment shed or garage that freezes solid in winter is within the −40 °C side of the range. A closed shed that bakes in July sun is within the +60 °C side. A spot hotter than +60 °C, such as a steam room or the wall right beside a stove, is outside the range: pick another wall.
