Where and at what height to hang the urinal in the cabin?

Back to FAQ

The Pi-Pi waterless urinal can be mounted on any wall at a height convenient for the main users: it is lightweight (1.4–1.5 kg), and the mounting hardware is selected for brick, concrete, wood, or frame walls. For tight corners, there is a corner model.

At what height to mount

There is no single number, as the height depends on the users. Stand by the wall and mark the level that is convenient for the main users. If it will be used by children or teenagers, consider their height or mount the urinal slightly lower. Leave space below the bowl for the outlet, hose, and container. The mounting and installation procedure are described in the installation answer.

Inside or outside the building

The urinal is designed for unheated buildings: the material does not crack in frost down to −40 °C and withstands up to +60 °C. Therefore, it can be installed in a garden house, utility room, garage, or shed. If you are considering installation in the open air without shelter, describe the location and get a recommendation on the suitable model.

Straight wall or corner

Straight models (Standard and Standard Plus) are designed for straight walls, while the corner model fits into a corner and does not take up space along the wall. This is convenient in a small garden house, allotment shed, or motorhome.

What wall is suitable

The mounting hardware is selected for the base: brick, concrete, wood, or frame wall. The product itself is lightweight, but the mounting must withstand not only its weight but also accidental presses and impacts during use. Therefore, on paneling, boards, or other thin coverings, attach the urinal to a stud or reinforcement.

Space for the container under the urinal

The container should be placed below the outlet so that liquid flows by gravity. The instructions show that the hose can be routed outside through the wall into a canister. If there is a dry or composting toilet nearby with a separate liquid container, the drain can be connected to it.

Dry toilet and ventilation

The urinal complements the toilet and does not replace it. In an enclosed space, choose a model with a Ø70 mm port and connect it to a ventilation duct to allow odors to escape. How this works in winter in an unheated building is explained in the winter operation answer.

Water drains passively through an outlet Ø24/32/40 mm into a bucket or canister under the sink or via a hose to wherever you direct it. The Pi-Pi sink has no built-in tank or pump; you supply the water yourself.

LLDPE remains flexible and impact-resistant in frost down to −40 °C, which is more important than rigidity for a waterless urinal or sink in an unheated cabin. Both urinals and Pi-Pi sinks are made from this material.

For an unheated building, garage, and plot, LLDPE is better: unfilled PP homopolymer becomes brittle around 0 °C, while LLDPE remains flexible down to −40 °C. This is how both urinals and Pi-Pi sinks are made.
