Can only men use the urinal?

Back to FAQ

The waterless urinal is designed for standing use, so it is used by men and boys. But the whole family benefits: the liquid goes into a separate container, and the shared toilet fills up more slowly.

Why the benefit is shared

When some of the liquid goes into the urinal, less of it ends up in the dry, composting, or separating toilet. It requires emptying less often and stays drier, which is appreciated by everyone who uses and maintains it. The mechanics are described in detail in the question why use a urinal if there is a composting or separating toilet.

The Standard urinal does not replace the toilet: it stands next to it and complements it.

Children and mounting height

The urinal is wall-mounted, so you choose the height during installation. When marking the wall, consider everyone who will use it, including children. Installation locations and height are discussed in the question where and at what height to hang the urinal in the cabin.

If the household is mostly women

In such a household, the urinal will be less beneficial, and other products for a cabin or allotment shed without plumbing, such as outdoor plastic sinks Pi-Pi, may be more useful: they hang on the wall, you pour water from your own container, and the drain goes into a bucket, container, or pipe.

If you are unsure whether your family needs a urinal, check out the urinal models: each page describes which cabin it is suitable for.

Related Questions

Yes: the Pi-Pi plastic sink requires neither plumbing nor sewage. It hangs on the wall, you supply water from your container, and the drain flows passively into a bucket or canister. The sink has no built-in tank, pump, or tap.

Yes: the plastic sink does not crack in frost down to −40 °C, so an unheated garage or allotment shed is not a problem. The main thing is to drain water from the bowl, outlet, hose, and containers before the cold: water freezes, not plastic.

There’s no single answer: it depends on your garden association’s and municipality’s rules, so check before installing. A waterless urinal doesn’t need plumbing: liquid collects in a closed container, which is easier to explain to the board.
